HKCNSA Participates in HKTE Seminar to Foster Information Security Talent Development

On July 17, 2025, the "Industry Trends and Career Prospects of Cybersecurity and Data Privacy" seminar, organized by the Hong Kong Talent Engage Office (HKTE) and supported by Hong Kong China Network Security Association (HKCNSA), was successfully held at the Revenue Tower in Wan Chai. The event attracted participants from local universities, startups, multinational corporations, and government agencies, with the online livestream also receiving enthusiastic engagement. The seminar focused on the latest industry trends, career planning, skill requirements, and local job opportunities in cybersecurity, providing practical guidance for young professionals aspiring to enter the field.

Dr. Barry Wong, Director of Talent and Education Committee at HKCNSA, delivered a keynote speech titled “Industry Trends and Career Prospects of Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Professionals in Hong Kong.” He highlighted the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals amid rapid digital transformation, particularly in fintech, cloud computing, and data protection. Dr. Wong also outlined common industry roles, such as security analysts, risk management consultants, and penetration testers, while offering career preparation advice, including technical and soft skill development, to help newcomers navigate their professional paths.

Following the keynote, Ms. Veronica Wang, member of the association’s Data Privacy Committee, shared her journey in the seminar segment “My Experience Settling and Succeeding in Hong Kong as a Cybersecurity Professional.” She recounted her career shift from a linguistics background into cybersecurity, discussing early challenges and key learning experiences. Ms. Wang encouraged attendees to embrace change, leverage cross-disciplinary strengths, and carve out unique career trajectories.
