"Building on Foundations, Expanding with Ambition" – A Triumphant Celebration of HKCNSA’s 1st Anniversary

On December 5, 2024, the Hong Kong China Network Security Association (HKCNSA) proudly celebrated its 1st Anniversary Ceremony at Rosewood Hong Kong under the theme "Build on Foundations, Expand with Ambition." This milestone event brought together over 100 distinguished guests, including policymakers, industry leaders, and cybersecurity experts, to celebrate achievements, exchange insights, and explore the future of cybersecurity in Hong Kong and beyond.




Opening Ceremony: A Moment of Celebration


The event was graced by distinguished guests, including: Mr. Peter Yan, Director General of the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises; Ms. Ada Chung, The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of PCPD; Mr. Raymond Lam, Chief Superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau at HKPF; Ms. Candy Chan, Assistant Commissioner (Project Governance and Cybersecurity) of the Digital Policy Office; and Mr. David Ip, Founding Chairman of the HKCNSA. Together, they officiated the opening ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the association and the cybersecurity industry.

 



Inspiring Leadership Insights


Mr. David Ip, Founding Chairman of HKCNSA, welcomed attendees with a heartfelt speech. He reflected on the association's achievements over the past year, highlighting the dedication of its members and their contributions to advancing cybersecurity awareness, setting standards, and fostering collaboration. Mr. Ip reaffirmed HKCNSA's commitment to uniting professionals in tackling future cybersecurity challenges.

 

Mr. David Ip, Founding Chairman of HKCNSA, opened the ceremony with an inspiring address, reflecting on the association’s achievements and vision for the future.

 

Mr. Peter Yan, Director General of the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity as a foundation for Hong Kong's digital transformation. He encouraged deeper collaboration between the government, businesses, and academia to address cybersecurity challenges, drive innovation, and contribute to economic diversification and social stability.

 

Mr. Peter Yan, Director General, shared his insights on the importance of cybersecurity in driving Hong Kong’s digital transformation.

 

Mr. Raymond Lam, Chief Superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (HKPF), shared impactful statistics on global cybercrime, with losses reaching $9.5 trillion globally and HK$5.4 billion in Hong Kong. He praised the association for its efforts in raising public awareness and called for ongoing research, collaboration, and talent development to strengthen cybersecurity defenses.

 

Mr. Raymond Lam, Chief Superintendent, highlighted the growing cost of global cybercrime and the urgency of collective action to fortify defenses.

 

Ms. Candy Chan, Assistant Commissioner of the Digital Policy Office, highlighted the government’s acceleration of digital transformation and the critical role of cybersecurity as a safeguard. She encouraged ongoing dialogue between HKCNSA and government departments to drive technological exploration and support Hong Kong's digital economy.

Keynote Speeches: Insights and Innovation

 

The event showcased keynote speeches from leading industry experts, offering valuable insights into data protection, enterprise digital transformation, and emerging cybersecurity trends.


Mr. Morris Ng, Senior Regional Solution Architect for Hong Kong and Macau at Veeam Software, delivered an engaging presentation titled “Proactive Data Protection.” He explored innovative approaches, including zero-trust architecture and multi-layered data resilience zones, to enhance enterprise data security and efficiency, supported by real-world case studies and actionable examples. Mr. Terry Leung, General Manager of HCL Software Greater China, spoke on “AI: Revolutionizing Cybersecurity with Efficiency and Reliability.” He highlighted how artificial intelligence is transforming cybersecurity, driving improvements in efficiency and reliability, while showcasing groundbreaking innovations and practical applications.

Mr. Wilson Tang, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA, delivered a speech titled “Review of Activities from the Past Year and Our Challenges,” reflecting on the association's key achievements and initiatives over the past year. He highlighted the successful events and programs organized to advance cybersecurity awareness while candidly addressing challenges related to influence-building and resource allocation. Ms. Chandy Ye, Vice Chairlady of HKCNSA, followed with her presentation, “When Lawyers Speak Cybersecurity.” She explored the critical role of cybersecurity within the legal framework, offering professional insights and practical experiences from a legal perspective. Ms. Ye emphasized the importance of data privacy protection and its pivotal role in supporting the growth of the digital economy.

 

Mr. Wilson Tang, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA, reviewed the association’s milestones over the past year, sharing candid reflections on challenges and opportunities.

 

Ms. Chandy Ye, Vice Chairlady of HKCNSA, explored “Cybersecurity in the Legal Framework,” emphasizing the critical role of legal compliance and data privacy protection in supporting the digital economy.

 

Additionally, several guests shared valuable insights on enhancing the effectiveness of cybersecurity assessments, leveraging enterprise solutions to strengthen security frameworks, and implementing innovative practices to address emerging cyber threats. Their presentations showcased forward-thinking strategies and practical technological advancements, offering actionable approaches to navigate the evolving cybersecurity landscape.


Mr. Linlin Zhao, Technical Partner at ThreatBook, delivered an insightful analysis on ‘Cybersecurity Attack and Defense Trends,’ offering a deep dive into evolving strategies and patterns in the cyber threat landscape.”


Mr. Leow Kim Hock, Asia CEO of  Wizlynx Group, shared insights on ‘Maximizing the Value of Holistic Cybersecurity Assessment,’ highlighting how comprehensive evaluations can strengthen cybersecurity resilience and efficiency.

 

Mr. Martin Ip, Co-Owner & CTO, HKBN Enterprise Solutions, introduced strategies for “Securely Managing Connectivity” in an evolving digital landscape.


Mr. Bill Chan, Sales Director, Splunk, delivered insights on building “Greater Digital Resilience” for enterprises navigating modern cyber challenges.

  

Mr. Sean Li, Vice President and Managing Director, Akamai Greater China, shared “Proactive Strategies for Combating Evolving Cyber Threats,” offering practical frameworks to address emerging risks.



Celebrating Excellence and Looking Forward

 

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to outstanding members, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the association and the broader cybersecurity community.
