HKCNSA Engages City University of Hong Kong, Sharing Insights on Cybersecurity and AI Career Development

On 12 March 2026, the Hong Kong China Network Security Association (HKCNSA) was invited to the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) to share with undergraduate and postgraduate students on topics including career planning in Hong Kong, cybersecurity, and market demand in artificial intelligence (AI), with the aim of helping young people grasp industry dynamics and refine their academic and career pathways.

The event began with short talks by HKCNSA Founding Chairman Mr. David Ip, Vice President Mr. Wilson Tang, and Director of the Talent Development and Education Committee, Dr. Barry Wong, who introduced their backgrounds and the Association’s work, and shared their motivations for entering the cybersecurity field. They offered advice on the pace of Hong Kong’s workplace, cross‑border collaboration opportunities, and core skills required before entering the industry, encouraging students to build diverse experiences during their studies to lay a solid foundation for future development.

Additionally, the speakers shared practical interview and job‑search tips, including reading beyond textbooks to stay current with industry developments, using concrete cases and outcomes to strengthen personal narratives, practising with mock interviews to improve delivery and responses, and clearly communicating value and motivation to gain recognition from interviewers.

In the subsequent interactive Q&A, students actively raised questions on the impact of AI on entry‑level roles, the skill sets required for cybersecurity positions, the importance of professional certifications, and how to build demonstrable capabilities that employers can recognise. The speakers responded from a practical perspective, and the atmosphere was lively.

The postgraduate lecture was delivered by Mr. Wilson Tang, Vice President of HKCNSA and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of HKBN Group. He drew on extensive corporate security experience to outline the CISO’s core responsibilities, including policy formulation, risk governance and 24×7 monitoring, and he examined the new cybersecurity challenges arising from rapid AI adoption.

HKCNSA has always focused on nurturing and developing young cybersecurity talent, continuously building platforms for academia industry exchange and promoting the integrated application of cybersecurity and AI in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Through this visit to CityU, the Association engaged with students at different stages, gaining a deeper understanding of their practical needs in learning and career planning.
