July 24, 2025 – the AWS Hong Kong Security Day 2025, hosted by AWS and supported by HKCNSA, concluded successfully. As one of the flagship annual events in the local cloud security area, this year’s event focused on critical infrastructure protection, compliance strategies, and cloud security technologies, attracting professionals from government agencies, multinational corporations, and the tech community.

Mr. David Ip, Founding Chairman of the Association, moderated a panel discussion titled “Guardians of Critical Infrastructure: Regional Best Practices for CI Compliance.” The session featured industry experts, including Mr. Kok Tin Gan, Co-founder of Darklab; Jason Jiang, AWS Head of GCR Security Go-to Market; and Siew Hoon Lim, AWS Business Development Manager of Digital Sovereignty. Together, they explored the best regional practices for critical infrastructure compliance and the implications of Hong Kong’s upcoming Protection of Critical Infrastructures (Computer Systems) Bill.

During the discussion, panelists conducted an in-depth comparison of regulatory frameworks, including China’s Cybersecurity Law, Singapore’s Cybersecurity Act, and Australia’s Security of Critical Infrastructure Act (SOCI), analyzing regional differences in incident reporting, risk management, and third-party compliance. They emphasized that with Hong Kong’s Critical Infrastructure Bill expected to take effect in 2026, enterprises should proactively initiate gap analyses, training, and contingency drills to ensure a smooth transition.
The event highlighted trends in critical infrastructure compliance and cloud security, addressing topics such as diverging regional regulations, cross-border data governance, and emerging cyber threats posed by AI technologies. The AWS team shared practical tools and technical frameworks to help businesses balance compliance with security, advancing the “Security by Design” principle in the local context.

Moving forward, HKCNSA will continue to strengthen collaboration with global industry leaders, fostering the integration of policy and technology to solidify Hong Kong’s role in the global digital security landscape.
